Do You Ever Look Up to the Eternal Blue Sky?
When Was the Last Time Your Soul Took a Dive into the Vast Blue Above?
“People never look up! It is a sad thing I notice all the time!” C. shouted to me, before taking five decisive steps and lifting off the slope with his paraglide. I was his helper for the day.
C. is looking up all the time. Day and night. When we’re in an enclosed space, he’s still looking up to the sky. Not with his eyes, but with his whole existence. He is embedded in the sky, even when he’s laid on the beach! I guess that’s why he is a master paraglider. But this is not the most interesting aspect about my friend C.. The reason I hang out with him, is that he too can feel the magic! And with this inner understanding, this world, this life, becomes his playground.
Now, this isn’t an exhortation to take up paragliding. It’s an invitation to something much more simple, practical, and immediate, but magical nevertheless.

Friend, do you ever look up to the sky?
How often do you gaze at the stars? How often do you watch the clouds move, transform, and disappear? From where you are sitting right now, do you know instinctively, where does the Sun rise from and where the Moon sets?
The Mongols have been calling it the Eternal Blue Sky.
When was the last time your soul took a dive into the vast blue above, dear friend?
I pause here for a while.
Buildings, concrete blocks, more concrete blocks, plastic signs on the walls, walls, more walls, screens—oh, those screens— traffic lights, big signs by the roads, this turn, the next turn, up the stairs, down the stairs, into the subway, out of the elevator and into a room again, classrooms, offices, and houses. Enclosures and traps of our gaze, of our attention, of our souls. A manufactured universe keeping us ignorant of the magic.
Allow me to ask again.
When was the last time your soul took a dive into the vast blue above, dear friend?
People are desperately hungry to feel the magic. But how can we feel the magic, if we don’t appreciate the wonder?
Where is the wonder, you ask, where should I look?
It’s out there. It’s right in front of your nose. It is the very breeze you breathe. It is the rain that awakens the sunburned fields that feed you. It is the full moon that keeps you up at night, and you don’t know why.
You don’t know, because you’re preoccupied with our manufactured universe.

Get out! Get out and look up!

This felt meditative! I look at the sky all the time. That blue colour is so magical. Only that lately, there's very little blue and tons of a sick grey colour I can't identify.
